Have you ever thought "that wouldn't happen to me"? Well, SCD can happen to anyone with an underlying heart disease with no prior symptoms, especially student athletes. At Hearty Hugs, we want to move towards a world with more awareness and solutions to reduce the number of student athletes who experience SCD.

OUR mission

To spread awareness of the severity of underlying cardiac diseases like Cardiomyopathy which can cause Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) in young athletes, and to encourage coaches and parents to help their students stay safe from SCD & discover underlying diseases before it is too late.

HOW Can I help?

You can spread awareness of SCD in student athletes by sending this website and its resources to people in your community! Contact us if you are interested in joining our mission to spread awareness and help prevent Sudden Cardiac Death among our student athletes!

What is Cardiomyopathy and How does it affect me or the people around me?

Cardiomyopathy (kahr-dee-o-my-OP-uh-thee) is a disease of the heart muscle that makes it difficult for your heart to pump blood to the rest of your body, leading to heart failure. The main types of cardiomyopathy include dilated, hypertrophic and restrictive cardiomyopathy.

*See your doctor if you have one or more signs or symptoms associated with cardiomyopathy. Call 911 or your local emergency number if you have severe difficulty breathing, fainting or chest pain that lasts for more than a few minutes.
